Now is the time of year when herbaceous perennials really come into their own, showing off with explosions of colour everywhere you look. Everything in The Growing Nursery is looking stunning right now. 

Below is just a small selection of some of the perennials that are now in flower. Visit our herbaceous perennial paradise and add some instant summer colour to your garden.

​Achilleas

Achilleas are traditional border flowers valued for their feathery foliage and striking flat, circular heads of flowers throughout the main summer season. They team well with other perennial flowers and are a vital ingredient of a traditional herbaceous border. 

1. Achillea 'Sunny Seduction'
Upright plant with yellow flowers from June - August. Good disease resistance.
Full sun, well drained soil. Height 60cm (Approx). Hardy.

7. Achillea 'Pomegranite'
Compact, sturdy plant with rich, velvety red flowers. Flowers June-July
Full sun, well drained soil. Height 70cm (Approx). Hardy.

13. Achillea 'Little Suzie'
Compact upright achillea with mid pink flowers in summer.

Full sun, well drained soil. Height 30cm (Approx). Hardy.

17. Achillea 'Pink Grapefruit'
Compact growing plant with dusty rose pink flowers fading to creamy pink. Good for cutting.  
Full sun, well drained soil. Height 60cm (Approx). Hardy

21. Achillea 'Wonderful Wampee'
Rich pink flowers fade to apple blossom pink with age. Grey/green foliage.
Full sun, well drained soil. Hardy.

23. Achillea 'Apricot Delight'
Perennial. with reddish apricot flowers fading to pale salmon with age. Feathery foliage.
Full sun, well drained soil. Height 60cm (Approx). Hardy.

24. Achillea 'Strawberry Seduction'
Strawberry red flowers with a vivid gold centre early-mid summer. 
Full sun, well drained soil. Deer resistant. Good for bees and butterflies. Hardy.

25. Achillea 'Little Moonshine'
Perennial with finely cut grey/green foliage and bright yellow flowers from May - September. Compact and good for containers.
Full sun or part shade, well drained soil. Height 20-30cm (Approx). Hardy.

27. Achillea 'Summer Fruits Carmine'
Vigorous mat  forming herbaceous perennial with pink flowers during summer. Grow in sandy moist or well drained soil.
Full sun. Height and spread 60cm (Approx). Hardy.

Astilbe

Astilbe is a perennial with beautiful, showy flowers atop glossy, fern-like foliage. If you have a shady area, try astilbes. They are a great way to add colour and texture to a place where other flowers won’t thrive.

8. Astilbe rosea 'Peach Blossom'
Feathery pink, peach plumes of flowers over lacy leaves in early - mid summer.
Full or part shade. Moist soil. Height 50cm (Approx). Hardy

28. Astilbe 'Bressingham Beauty'
Clump forming perennial with handsome bronze tinted, green foliage. Graceful, arching plumes of bright pink, frothy flowers.
Partial shade. Moist soil.
Max Height 90cm (Approx), Max spread 75cm (Approx). Flowers July-August. Hardy.

22. Astilbe arendsii 'White Gloria'
Clump forming perennial with handsome mid green foliage. Large plumes of creamy white, frothy flowers.
Full or part shade. Moist soil.
Max Height 100cm (Approx), Max spread 45cm (Approx). Flowers June-August. Hardy.

​Echinacea

Echinacea, with their strong daisy shapes, flower from mid-summer to early-autumn. The vibrant colours of echinacea brighten up borders and attract bees and butterflies to your garden too. Seeds may be saved for sowing in spring.

6. Echinacea 'Rosita'
Dwarf perennial with pale pink petals around a mid brown cone. Attractive to insects, good for cut flowers.
Full sun, well drained soil. Height 30cm (Approx). Hardy.

12. Echinacea 'Mama Mia'
A new variety. Vibrant red/pink petals over an orange cone. Flowers June through until September with fragrant flowers. This variety makes good cut flowers, is attractive to insects and also deer resistant.
Full sun or partial shade. Height 50cm (Approx). Hardy.

16. Echinacea 'Butterfly Kisses' 
One of the best in a new breed of double coneflowers.  A compact variety that's perfect for the front of sunny borders and great for cut flowers. Long flowering. Full sun or partial shade. Height 40cm (Approx). Hardy.

20. Echinacea 'Dixie Sun'
A beautiful yellow coneflower that's deer resistant. Perfect for sunny borders, great for cut flowers. Long flowering.
Full sun or partial shade. Height 60cm (Approx). Hardy.

26. Echinacea 'Merlot'
A vibrant coneflower, this selection features bright rose-magenta petals surrounding a large orange button-shaped cone. The tall stems are a contrasting wine-red tone. Perfect for sunny borders, great for cut flowers.
Full sun or partial shade. Height 80cm (Approx). Hardy.

Leucanthemum

Leucanthemum is a useful plant for any mixed perennial flower bed because, although it does best in full-sun conditions, it is also tolerant of shady locations. It boasts a long flowering season that starts in June and lasts through until September. 

18. Leucanthemum 'Sweet Daisy Jane'
Perennial with large white daisy flowers with a yellow centre, all summer.
Full sun or partial shade. Moist well drained soil.
Max Height 25cm (Approx). Hardy.

15. Leucanthemum 'Superbum Freak'
Compact clump forming perennial with double white flowers with a yellow centre, all summer.
Full sun or partial shade. Moist well drained soil.
Max Height 45cm (Approx). Hardy.

Kniphofias

Kniphofias make rewarding garden plants and can be enjoyed between spring and late autumn. Their distinctively-shaped blooms are among the most spectacular of hardy flowers. For optimum performance choose a spot in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil. 

2. Kniphofia 'Orange Vanilla Popsicle'
Compact red hot poker with vanilla and strawberry red / orange flowers all summer. Neat grassy foliage.
Full sun or partial shade. 
Max Height 35cm (Approx). Hardy.

9. Kniphofia 'Red Hot Popsicle'
Compact clump forming perennial that looks super with wild grasses.
Full sun or partial shade. 
Max Height 75cm (Approx). Hardy.

14. Kniphofia 'Elvira'
Perennial with tall spikes of fiery orange flowers July-September.
Full sun, well drained soil. 
Max Height 70cm (Approx). Hardy.


Coreopsis

Coreopsis is one of the longest bloomers in the garden, producing sunny yellow daisylike flowers that attract butterflies. Coreopsis will bloom best in full sun, but it can also be successfully grown in partial shade.

3. Coreopsis 'Little Bang Enchanted Eve'
Compact perennial with bright yellow flowers with a red centre. Flowers June through until September.
Max Height 40cm (Approx). Hardy.

4. Coreopsis 'Little Bang Red Elf'
Compact perennial Coreopsis with deep red daisy like flowers all summer. 
Max Height 40cm (Approx), well drained soil. Hardy.

10. Coreopsis 'Little Bang Starlight'
Compact perennial with large white flowers with a Burgundy centre.
Max Height 25cm (Approx), well drained soil. Hardy.


Hemerocallis

Hemerocallis (daylilies) produce beautiful trumpet shaped flowers until late summer. The flowers are very short lived but each plant will produce masses of them, making them just perfect for those who like showy borders.

5. Hemerocallis 'Roger Grounds'
One of the most prolific hemerocallis varieties. Chosen specifically for the amount of flowers that it produces from June - late August. 
Full sun or partial shade Height 60 - 90cm (Approx). Hardy.

11. Hemerocallis 'Red Suspenders' 
An aptly named prolific hemerocallis variety. Chosen specifically for the amount of flowers that it produces from June - late August.
