Sophie Allport has issued a product safety recall for a number of its doorstops and draught excluders because the marble chips used to fill the products may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos.
There is a full list of the affected products on Sophie Allport's website and the ones we had in stock are as follows:
- Terrier doorstop
- Labrador doorstop
- Cows doorstop
- Sheep doorstop
- Beehive doorstop
- Dachshund doorstop
If you have already disposed of the product, then no further action needs to be taken.
If you still have the product then please stop using it immediately.
Sophie Allport advises that, if the product is undamaged, you should place it in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double tape it securely, label it clearly and store it somewhere secure and out of reach of children.
If the product is damaged and the filling is accessible, please follow the clean-up instructions provided by Sophie Allport.
Please bring the affected product back to Beetham Nurseries, along with proof of purchase or Garden Club card number and a photograph of the product, and we will complete a form and arrange a full refund.
Are there any health risks associated with this product?
The Office for Product Safety and Standards, UK Health Security Agency and Health and Safety Executive have issued a joint statement on Asbestos in Consumer Products, which states that the risks to health are expected to be low, for these recalled products during normal use, even with occasional short-term exposures and when following the disposal instructions. To reduce any potential risks to health, it is important to stop any use or access to the affected products and follow the clean-up and recall advice.
