Catering Manager

Do you have great organisational skills and an ability to both lead and inspire others? We are looking for an organised, positive and motivated Catering Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of our busy Garden Cafe and our new venture, the Wood Fired Kitchen. Working as part of a friendly team, in a fast paced environment, you will be a quick thinking decision maker with a hands on attitude.

The cafe is a popular part of an independent, family run Garden Centre and offers delicious, home-made food in a welcoming environment. The Wood Fired Kitchen is a new and exciting venture (set to open in May), offering locally sourced, high quality ingredients cooked on a wood fired oven in an open kitchen environment.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Managing and inspiring a team of chefs and catering assistants.
  • Ensuring a consistently high quality of both food and customer service.
  • Planning menus in collaboration with chefs.
  • Stock taking and ordering cafe supplies.
  • Organising staff rotas; training, hiring and supervising new members of staff.
  • Working to budget to achieve high quality in all areas.
  • Ensuring Health & Safety regulations are observed and recorded.
  • Greeting and serving customers.

About You

  • You will be a positive team player with a hands on approach, motivating others to achieve their fullest potential and leading by example.
  • You will have excellent customer service and communication skills and are able to build strong relationships with both customers and staff.
  • You’re able to work well under pressure, in a fast paced and often changing environment
  • You have excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • You’re comfortable working as part of a team as well as on your own initiative.
  • You have experience working in a similar role; previous management experience is a must!

Retail Floor Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Retail Floor Manager to join our team. 

We are looking for an experienced shop manager to join our team, overseeing the successful management of our popular Garden Centre and Gift Shop. The role is primarily based on the shop floor, and you will be working in a busy, dynamic environment that changes every day – so you'll need to be confident when it comes to multitasking and managing multiple priorities. You are a people person with a knack for getting the best out of others, inspiring them to work to their full potential whilst doing so yourself.  

Note: No plant knowledge is required for this role.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Managing the Garden Centre and Gift Shop: you will be responsible for the management of the store's overall operations, working to maximise profits through the organisation of promotions, use of sales skills, and management of sales volumes and figures. 
  • You will be responsible for a team of 15-20 existing staff. The role will include interviewing and hiring new staff members, overseeing HR processes such as management of holidays and weekly rotas, providing staff training, resolving any legal or health and safety issues, and ensuring high standards are consistently met and maintained.  
  • You will be able not only to provide excellent customer service yourself, but also to ensure your team does so! 

About You 

  • Previous management experience is essential. 
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills are a must: you're able to both motivate and inspire your team, setting and maintaining consistently high standards.  
  • You're a strong team player and are comfortable working with others, both on a person to person basis and with the various teams at Beetham Nurseries. That being said, you're equally comfortable working independently, thinking on your feet and taking initiative. 
  • You are able to efficiently delegate and prioritise tasks in a busy, fast paced environment. 
  • You have a strong awareness of the current market and industry competitors.

Hours:  Full time, including weekend work.

Full Time Chef Required for an Exciting New Venture

We are currently looking for an experienced Chef to join us in an exciting new venture.

Working in an open kitchen environment, you will be cooking on a wood-fired oven, using fresh, seasonal and wherever possible, local ingredients. 

Roles & Responsibilities  

Working closely with and reporting directly to the Catering Manager, you will be responsible for: 

• Food production in our brand new and exciting, Wood Fired Kitchen. 

• Working as part of a team. 

• Maintaining high standards of hygiene, health and safety. 

• Ordering and stock control. 

• Maintaining high standards of presentation at all times.

About You  

• Experience cooking with a wood-fired oven preferred but not essential.

• You will hold a minimum level 2 food hygiene certificate. 

• You will have creative flair when it comes to designing menus. 

• You will have a pro-active driven attitude towards work and performance. 

• You will have a real passion for producing fresh food at a high standard. 

• You will be professional and approachable and work well as part of a team. 

• Your communication skills will be excellent. 

• You will be experienced in working in a busy kitchen. 

• You will have an understanding of costings and stock control. 

• You will be flexible and willing to adapt in a fast changing environment.

Hours: Full time position, 5 days a week including weekend work on a rota basis. 

No split shifts.

Full Time Commis Chef

We are looking for a friendly, motivated person over the age of 16, to join our catering team

The Commis Chef will be responsible for making sandwiches and salads and assisting other members of the kitchen team as required. Applicants should be hard working, reliable and have consistently great food production skills.

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Some food knowledge and a desire to learn more.
  • Strong, positive and professional communications skills.
  • Good organisational skills and some understanding of cost control / minimising waste.
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety.
  • You will have a basic food hygiene certificate.
  • You will be able to follow hygiene procedures and keep records accordingly.  

About You 

  • You are personable with excellent communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred, however not essential as full training will be provided.

Full Time Growing Nursery Supervisor

Plants are our passion, and if you share this then we would love to hear from you! We are looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Nursery Supervisor to join our friendly team in our popular Growing Nursery.

Roles & Responsibilities 

  • Supervising and leading a small team of staff in the Growing Nursery.
  • Propagation and cultivation of plants throughout the year.
  • Year-round maintenance of the Growing Nursery, ensuring plants are well looked after and the Nursery is kept attractive and tidy at all times.
  • Serving customers and dealing with enquiries.

About You 

  • This is a physically demanding role: you should be fit and able to work in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Plant knowledge and experience working with plants is a must, as is an enthusiasm for horticulture!
  • You will come into daily contact with our customers, so you will be personable and have good communication skills.
  • Previous experience in a Garden Centre, Nursery or horticultural environment is essential.
  • Supervisory experience is desirable.

Hours:  Full Time, including full alternate weekends. This is a permanent position.

Full Time Cafe Assistant

The Garden cafe is currently looking for a full time Cafe Assistant to work 5 days a week, including some weekends.

Applicants should be hard working and have excellent customer service skills. Experience in a similar role is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided. Once trained, you will be expected to work unsupervised and on your own initiative.

Note: applicants must be over the age of 18 as you may be required to serve alcohol.

Part Time Kitchen Porter

We are looking for a part time Kitchen Porter over the age of 18 to work in our Garden Cafe

Reporting to the Catering Managers, Supervisors & Duty Chefs. Appraised by the Catering Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Washing dishes efficiently within a busy kitchen environment and keeping all breakages to a minimum.
  • Completing a daily cleaning rota and keeping written records as appropriate.
  • Assisting the front of house staff wherever necessary.
  • Emptying of bins and waste as necessary.
  • Assisting with putting delivery orders away and maintaining tidy storage areas.
  • Ensuring that any risk assessments are complied with.
  • Maintaining records as required by the Cafe Manager.
  • Complying with all health and safety regulations: HACCP, C.O.S.H.H. Regulations, fire policy and reporting hazards to the management.
  • Performing any other related duties that may be required by your manager or supervisor.

About You

  • You will have a strong focus on customer service.
  • You will be physically fit.
  • You will be able to adapt in a fast changing environment.
  • You will come into daily contact with our customers, so you will be personable and have good communication skills.

Hours:  3 days per week, including some weekends. Part time position, 9am until 5.00/5.30pm to include a 30 minute unpaid break.

General Retail Assistant (Weekend Seasonal Vacancy)

We are looking for a friendly, motivated person over the age of 16, to join our indoor retail team. This is a seasonal part time weekend position until the end of September and as such would be well suited to a student.

Roles & Responsibilities 

• This is a customer facing role, and as a result customer service is key! You will be dealing with queries and requests.

• You'll ensure that the shop floor is kept clean, tidy and well organised at all times.

• Till operation, accurately handling cash and debit card transactions.

• Ensuring that stock is rotated on a regular basis.

About You 

• You will have a strong focus on customer service.

• You will have an interest in the products that we sell.

• You are personable with strong communication skills.

• You will be physically fit, as you will be required to unload deliveries, stack shelves and help customers with their purchases e.g. taking compost to their car.

• You're happy to work as part of a close-knit team, as well as being confident working independently and on your own initiative.

• Previous retail experience is a bonus, however not essential – we will focus on your character and skills.

Hours: Seasonal part time weekend vacancy until the end of September.
