An informative & practical workshop, with renowned horticulturalist Marguerite Hughes, where you will discover everything you need to know about growing climbers of every type including clematis, roses, honeysuckles, wisteria, passionflowers & annual & tender climbers. There will be recommendations for different garden sites including shade, wet & exposed areas. How to select, plant & choose the right climber & how to grow them on walls, fences, arches, obelisks & through trees & shrubs. Aftercare including pruning, propagation & top planting combinations with other plants for long term interest.
It will illustrate the principles & benefits of companion planting including which herbs are most beneficial in this respect & utilising this as a natural method of combatting pests & diseases.
The last 30 minutes of the session will allow for summary, round up & Q&A.
All you need to bring with you on the day is a notebook & pen. You will be given handouts relevant to the workshop to take home. There will be lots of opportunities during the day to handle materials referred to during the sessions. The workshop is very interactive and, at any point during the day, you can ask questions relating to your own gardens.
The Details
This workshop will take place on our Terrace (to the right of The Garden Cafe) in our Marquee. Please wear suitable clothing, although it is heated on cooler days. Your ticket price includes tea, coffee, a freshly prepared lunch, and a home-baked sweet treat. Seating in the Marquee is metal chairs or benches, so you may wish to bring a cushion to sit on.
